IMTT was settled by the International Maritime Employers’ Committee (IMEC) (the “Settlor”) under the Isle of Man Purpose Trust Act 1966 with the purpose of "assisiting with such measures as may contribute toward the objective of providing seafarers with training which is in compliance with appropriate legislation." The Trust is subject to Manx Law and must comply fully with all legal requirements, including the appointment of the Trustees and the independent ‘Enforcer’ - together with the maintenance of full financial information. Consequently the funds disbursed by the Trust can only be utilized in accordance with the purpose of the Trust as defined in the Trust Deed. This provides that the funds must be used as effectively as possible to ensure that training is in full compliance with the STCW 95 Convention (IMO Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping) and also to ensure that the training satisfies best industry practice worldwide.
